Ancient Studies Program

In the Ancient Studies program, you will explore the entire Greco-Roman Mediterranean world, from its beginnings through Late Antiquity. The program combines linguistic and literary approaches with historical, archaeological, philosophical, religious studies, and other interpretive perspectives. The core focus is on Greek and Roman cultures in all their aspects. This is complemented by the study of neighboring cultures of the Mediterranean, such as those of Egypt and the ancient Near East.

The interdisciplinary Minor in Ancient Studies is ideally suited for combination with a Major that includes content related to Ancient Studies, but it can also be pursued alongside any other UZH degree program.

Further information on the Ancient Studies program is available in German.

Please note that Ancient Studies can currently only be studied in German.

ZAZH (Zurich Center for the Study of Antiquity)

The ZAZH (Zurich Center for the Study of Antiquity) is a “Center of competence” (a network of institutes, departments and sections of these that co-operate to form special, interdisciplinary research clusters) of the University of Zurich (UZH). It pursues the objective of linking, across the institution and beyond the boundaries of faculty, research and teaching in the domain of Ancient Studies, and of strengthening the international position of UZH as a hub for the research of Mediterranean Antiquity.

Further information on ZAZH is available here.
